Spannerworks have recently rebranded themselves Icrossing UK, after their acquisition by Icrossing, the US’s 2nd largest search agency. Based in Brighton, but now with a London presence, Spannerworks currently employ around 100 full time staff, estimated to have a compliment of around 40 in the SEO team. They offer a full spectrum of services including PPC, SEO, Social Media and Display advertising.
Spannerwokrs, once regarded by many as one of the leaders in the natural search rankings appear to have let their game slip somewhat. Spannerworks once boasted a compliment of some 5 out of the top 10 in Google for ‘car insurance’, including elephant, esure, admiral and confused, however now (either through drops or client loses) have none of their publicised clients in the top 10.
In Spannerworks favour, and seemingly since the acquisition by icrossing, many of these drops could be due to a strict anti-link buying policy. While we can all see - link spam still rules Google - by taking this stance, Spannerworks have possibly detrimented their reputation as leaders in rankings positions for the longer term view as leaders of the new world of social media - a service headed by ex-Bell Potinger PR guru Antony Mayfield.
This said, there is still plenty of evidence that Spannerwork’s clients remain in strong positions through link acquisition. Simply look at the backlinks of some of thier high profile clientsincluding:
- Halifax
- Admiral
- Brussels Airlines
